{August Goals}

With so much to do and accomplish, I decided it was time for a little short-term goal setting. I have a list a mile long of things I need to get done, projects to complete, on an on...so without overwhelming myself too much, here are my 6 goals for the month of August. I'll update at the end of the month as to how well I did.

1. Not spend any additional money (outside of normal grocery bill) for breakfast or lunch during the work week.

2. Keep grocery budget under $250 for the month (this is for a family of 3 that includes a teenage boy)

3. Get my home office functional.

4. Walk 24 miles this month. I know that doesn't seem like much, but I've broke it down to walking 2 miles 3 times a week. I think that's plenty for starters.

5. Keep up with my Project Life picture taking in August.

6. Be sleeping in my own bed nightly by the end of the month.

Scripture Memory

The last few months of 2008 have been hard on my heart and soul. I know that God did not call me to a defeated life and that He doesn't want me to just roll over and give up. So today, I have my big girl panties on. I know that when I stay focused on God and my goals that life just seems to go much smoother....not perfect...but better.

I have a ton of goals for the coming year, but one in particular is scripture memory. I'm joining Siestas around the world and committing to memorize 24 verses this year. Very within reach. Mama Beth, as she is affectionately called, is leading the masses in this endeavor. Check it out.

My verse for the first part of January;

You made me suffer a lot,
but you will bring me back from this deep pit
and give me new life.
You will make me truly great
and take my sorrow away.
Psalm 71:20-21 (Contemporary English Version)
I've not used this version before, but I really liked the way it was worded in this passage. So,here's to a new year...I'll be sharing more goals throughout the month of January.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

New Year, Fresh Start

Yes, I do realize that it is January 5th, but I'm a procrastinator at heart! I do love a new year...a chance to reflect on the past, set new goals, clean out the clutter in our lives. So, I've been thinking all week..."what do I really want this year to be about?" What changes do I need to make? What did I do well in 2007? And what needs major improvement? I have a large array of goals, but I try to really focus on a few from each of the areas of well-being....spiritual, physical, & emotional.

Spiritual
1. I will read through and study the New Testament along with our church.
2. I will spend time each week in quiet reflection with my God..."be still and know that I am God."
3. I will find ways to incorporate scripture memory into my every day life

Physical
1. I will lose 40 pounds this year by changing my eating habits and exercising
2. I will give up sodas :(
3. I will at least WALK on the treadmill daily

Emotional
1. I will learn to breathe...instead of becoming angry
2. I will forgive those that have hurt me and not look back
3. I will focus on the positive of each day, noting how much I have to be grateful for

This is just the big things on my list...the ones I struggle with the most and am desperate to see change in this year. I want so many more things this year...to have my home be a reflection of Christ...to live more simply...to spend more time making memories with my family...to allow my creativity to flourish.

What do you wish for the new year? What will you change? For without change, you cease to grow and I never want to stop growing.
