You're Gonna Miss This

I think as I get older and I watch my children growing up, this song just really hits home. How many times do we wish this particular time in our lives to just hurry up, but it's true...you'll miss it. You'll wish for the carefree teen years. You'll long for the fun-loving newlywed stage. You can't believe your babies are getting ready to fly on their own and you'll yearn for the time to cuddle with them. You'll miss the midnight feedings when you're waiting for your daughter to make curfew. You'll miss the snoring of your husband when he's serving half way around the world in Iraq.

The lesson? Live the moment!!

Here's the lyrics...and be sure to check out other great inspiration through song here!

TRACE ADKINS Lyrics - You’re Gonna Miss This

She was staring out the window of that SUV
Complaining, saying “I can’t wait to turn 18″
She said “I’ll make my own money, and I’ll make my own rules”
Momma put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said “I was just like you”

You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

Before she knows it she’s a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her “It’s a nice place”
She says “It’ll do for now”
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says “Baby, just slow down”

Cause you’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

Five years later there’s a plumber workin’ on the water heater
Dog’s barkin’, phone’s ringin’
One kid’s cryin’, one kid’s screamin’
She keeps apologizin’
He says they don’t bother me.
I’ve got 2 babies of my own.
One’s 36, one’s 23.
Huh, it’s hard to believe, but …

You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

What a great song!
I have to remind myself somedays, in the middle of all of the mess and the crying and the craziness, that I am going to miss my girls being little some day. And I need to enjoy them as much as I can right now. Hmmmmm....maybe I should get off the computer and go love on them!
Blessings!

I've heard this song before and it's true...I try to enjoy my last baby as much as possible - I don't want to wish away any stage he's in, no matter how challenging I think it is at the time. I'm thankful to God that he (and all my boys) is healthy and I can have the challenges that come!

I can so identify with this song! I still do this. Just the other day I found myself wishing my 3yo DD was a little older, so things would be "easier" but then I looked at her baby pictures and missed those days so much. Moments go by so fast, we have to cherish each one.

Hello fellow Scrap-A-Holic,
First, please pass on my appreciation to your husband and ((((HUGS)))) to you for both of your sacrifices. I will remember this when I am tempted to nudge my snoring hubby.

I LOVE this song! I just registered my son for Kindergarten this week and I heard this song as we got into the car to come home. Oh, can we say TEARS!

This song is so true. I couldn't wait to get done with high school, do some traveling, and find myself. By 20, I was married - it all happened so fast. Now, I have daughters talking the same way. The 13-year-old wants to get done early with high school and go to Hawaii. The 11-year-old can't wait to go to Hollywood to become an actress. Even the 8-year-old has plans of singing in Nashville or New York City. I had better enjoy what time I have with them.

You are so very right. This song is great, but it is HARD sometimes to live in the moment, and appreciate what you have.
Great message!
